The short version
Story of Days is a private journaling app. Your entries belong to you. We don't read them, sell them, or use them to train AI models. We don't show ads. We collect only the information needed to run the service.
What we collect
We collect the minimum needed to provide the service:
- →Account information — your name, email address, and a hashed (never plain-text) password.
- →Journal content — entries, stories, time capsules, and notes you write. We store them to show them back to you.
- →Uploaded files — images and audio you attach to entries.
- →Usage data — streak counts, total entries, and badge progress. This data lives in your account only.
- →Log data — standard server logs (IP address, timestamps, request paths) retained for up to 30 days for security purposes.
What we don't do
- ✕Sell or rent your personal data to third parties
- ✕Read your private journal entries
- ✕Use your content to train AI or machine learning models
- ✕Show you ads — ever
- ✕Track your behaviour across other websites
How we use your data
We use your data only to operate and improve Story of Days:
- →Authenticate you and keep your account secure
- →Display your entries and stories back to you
- →Send transactional emails (verification, password reset, time capsule delivery, account deletion confirmation)
- →Track your writing streak and award badges
- →Provide shared features when you choose to connect with another user
Cookies and sessions
We use a single httpOnly, secure cookie to keep you signed in. It expires after 7 days of inactivity. We do not use tracking pixels, analytics cookies, or third-party advertising cookies.
Data sharing
We do not share your personal data with third parties except as strictly necessary to operate the service:
- →Cloud hosting — your data is stored with a cloud database and file storage provider. Both are contractually bound to protect your data.
- →Email delivery — transactional emails are sent via an SMTP provider. Only your email address and the email content are shared, and only when you trigger an email action.
- →Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.
Your rights
You have full control over your data:
- →Access all your data by logging in
- →Update your name, email, and password at any time in Settings
- →Export your entries (feature coming soon)
- →Delete your account and all associated data permanently from Settings
Account deletion
When you delete your account, we permanently erase all of your data: entries, stories, chapters, time capsules, shared notes, uploaded files, and your profile. We send you a confirmation email summarising what was removed. The deletion is irreversible.
Children's privacy
Story of Days is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us.
Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes to this policy, we'll email registered users in advance. Continued use of the service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
